Speechless.

I got an email from Lu at Poppies Blooming the other day asking me if she could paint a picture of Addison ... this picture, actually ... you might remember it ... ;)

So a couple days later, I got another email from Lu telling me she was done ... that was fast! Here is the final product ...

Isn't that amazing? Thank you so much Lu! Please stop by Poppies Blooming to see how you can get a canvas of your own!

Beautiful picture! So sweet :-)

I am another IAG mom and we adopted our little girl in 2004 at age 11 mos. She, too, wanted nothing to do with her siblings when she first came home. I figured she has seen enough "babies" and wanted "adults!" now. She pretty much ignored her brothers and all other little children for several months. Looking back, once she was home 6-8 weeks and really becoming attached to us, she started playing with the other kids. It did take awhile and as you mentioned, was completely normal for her situation. We would encourage our boys to give her time ("she's just little" we'd say since she was, emotionally) and we tried to set up "successful" playtimes for them like having them all play with bubbles, or in the bath with foam, etc. which helped soothe hurt feelings for the brothers.

Now, 4 years later, they are typical siblings. Lots of fights but lots of love and fun too. She has shown no long term desire to be away from other children and is now, quite social. Loves, loves to play with her brothers and all other kids as well. It just took time.

You're doing great! Stay calm and understanding like you have been. It took us at least 6 weeks before we felt even close to "normal" and even longer before our new little one felt truly blended and a part of the family in every sense.

My little one, too, wanted to be held all the time. We did our best! Lots of jealousy from siblings on our end so we tried to make special time for them in the evenings once little one was in bed. That, too, gradually faded as she become more use to us and more attached. :-)

Blessings and Congrats!!
Laurie
